Oh my goodness, I’m so honored right now. I created this cake out of pure love as a gift for my amazing mother in law. Not only did I win the husband lottery when I met my Soul Mate, Michael, but I also won the mother in law lottery too! His mother, Sarah, is one of the sweetest kindest humans I have ever met, with a real servant’s heart. She’s always out in the community helping people in need through her church, & she raised an incredible son, too! She has taken me into her heart from the first day I met her, & now I have a second mom!
The family threw a huge bash for her 75th birthday, & of course my gift to her was the showstopper cake! I had seen the amazing tutorial from Viki Kane (purchase it here—SO worth the money!) on the geode toppers, & just HAD to make a geode cake. Which I thought was perfect because I could incorporate her birthstone of aquamarine in to the geodes to really personalize it. And it was spring, so I wanted a springy woodland feel with lots of flowers, because she just LOOOVES flowers!
All the flowers & succulents are hand made of sugar, & the ‘moss’ is a cool trick with graham cracker crumbs. I loved the marbled fondant as well, in shades of lavender with hand painted edible metallics.
To up the coolness factor to Cakes ROCK!!! level, I decided to light up the geode topper! Since the party was at night in a bar owned by a family member, I knew it would really stand out in person. Hard to see in pics though.
The flavors of the cake were off the charts awesome. The bottom tier was Pecan Praline Cake & filling—to die for! Middle tier was ‘BananaRama’, a luscious banana cake with my own Bananas Foster filling. And the top tier was Dark Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Cup filling. YUM!!!
Here are Sarah & me with the cake at the party. Like the pool table cake display? LOL!
